A diagnostic test is any procedure used to provide information about a person's condition that helps to make a diagnosis.

Diagnostic tests provide information about whether a person does or does not have a particular health condition.

Diagnostic tests include chemical analyses of a body substance (e.g. blood or urine), imaging (e.g. x-rays or ultrasound), biopsies (looking at cells under a microscope), physical examinations (e.g. listening to the heart or lungs), or simply asking questions (e.g. about depression).
