— For tests, a false negative result is when the index test result is negative, while the reference standard test result is positive

Full explanation:

In a study of diagnostic test accuracy, a false negative test result means that the test being evaluated (the index test) incorrectly indicated that a participant did not have the target condition when, based on the reference standard test, that person actually had the condition.
